Lena Stein is a photographer who explores portraiture in new ways by viewing photos as an extension of painting. She works with natural light and a unique sense of color.
"In a deeply divided world I search for what connect us. There are walls and they often are invisible. Through my photographs I want to weave a quilt of images of people that are interconnected, not divided. The differences are what we are but what connect us is much stronger." Lena Stein will be traveling with the Connecticut Haitian American Organization in March to document the groups mission to bring medical and basic supplies to the people of Haiti. After reviewing her photos, the group was convinced that she was the “right person to travel with us to document this extraordinary mission. Your photos capture something special of the subjects and portray a positive image.”
Lena currently has a show at the Sherman Museum at Hartford University and will run through March 22, 2010.
